E-Learning Course on Principles of Natural Gas Markets & District Heating Regulation

Brief Description of the Course:

ERRA is proud to announce its new e-learning training module titled Introduction to the Regulation of Natural Gas Markets and District Heating. The course will feature issues of natural gas regulation while the last part of the course will deal with the heat market and its regulatory models.

During the course the following broad themes will be addressed:

Natural Gas:

  • A general introduction into the gas value chain
  • A brief historic overview of the role of natural gas in the EU energy mix.
  • Regulating the gas value chain, specific features and regulatory dilemmas:
    • The TSO and DSO functions
    • Gas storages, including seasonal storage, LNG terminals
    • Tariff setting & cross border issues
    • New infrastructures and the specific gas characteristics
    • Restructuring and liberalization
    • Security of supply

District Heating:

  • Introduction of district heating concepts and their regulatory issues
  • District heat pricing and vulnerable customers
  • Relevant EU Directives and the EU Policy
  • Case Studies

 

 

Course Requirements:

We estimate that assignments will take 10-15 hours per week. Students are advised to check the website daily, it will be required to read the textbook and solve exercises. Thus, we would appreciate if the participant could make commitment for this additional workload.

The participant shall have direct access to the internet with a minimum speed of 128/256Kb and his/her computer must have PDF functionality, Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 2.0 and a personal email address.

The participant shall have at least medium-level written command of English or Russian so that he/she could engage in online group discussions and debates with fellow participants and engage in direct communication with the course instructors.

After the completion of the course participants will get E-certificates.

Course consists of an extensive textbook, exercises and test questions.
